5 Reasons to visit Chicago this Summer

Are you looking for something new and fun to do this summer? Check out these 5 reasons to visit the Windy City! As the hub of the Midwest, Chicago hosts a number of great places to visit and events to attend, especially during the summer as the temperatures climb.

  1. Take me out to the ballgame

Summer wouldn’t be summer without baseball. In Chicago, you have plenty of options to watch America’s favorite pastime as the city hosts both the Chicago Cubs, who play in the historic Wrigley Field, and the Chicago White Sox. Watch the defending World Series Champion Cubs or the up-and-coming Sox while scarfing down a Chicago-style hotdog. And if you come to the city in late July you could even watch the cross-town rivals play each other.

  1. Hear your favorite bands

Another great event for you to attend is the 2017 Lollapalooza music festival which will be held in Grant Park from August 3rd to the 6th. Listen to great music from a variety of artists. The festival will also include an art market and food will be available from some of the most popular Chicago restaurants.

  1. Spend some time at the beach or on a boat

Chicago’s position on Lake Michigan means that the city hosts some of the best beaches in the Midwest. You can lay out on the beach and get a tan while looking at views of the Chicago Skyline, go for a swim to cool down, or even try out stand-up paddleboarding. There are also plenty of opportunities to take a cruise on the Lake, which can be a great way to end a hot summer day.

  1. Check out the architecture

Downtown Chicago is known for its striking and innovative architecture. If the height does not frighten you, then step out onto the Skydeck, suspended high above the city streets in the Willis Tower. You will have a breathtaking view of all that Downtown Chicago has to offer. Another way to see the city is to take a tour. Walking tours are offered by a number of companies or you can always take a tour via riverboat in the Chicago River.

  1. Make some furry friends

Chicago is home to both the Lincoln Park Zoo and the Shedd Aquarium. Head to either of these spots for a fun day of seeing all kinds of animals. Lincoln Park Zoo is one of the largest free-admission zoos in the United States!
